Core Values of Covenant Worship (original text)
“When Covenanters worship, we celebrate God’s story through expressions rooted in our culture. Our worship creates a sense of intimacy with both God and one another and forms us into a community of disciples of Christ.”
I. We celebrate God’s Story
• The story of the Triune God, God of Old and New Testaments
• The story of God’s saving acts, begun at creation, continued in the covenants with the people of Israel and ultimately revealed primarily in the Paschal Mystery, that is the dying and rising of Jesus Christ
• The story is empowered by the Holy Spirit
• The story is proclaimed in Word and Sacrament to and through the body of Christ, the Church
• The story as revealed in our Covenant heritage and all who share our common life
II. Rooted in Culture
• Rooted in the Incarnation we
− celebrate through human expressions of Beauty, Joy, Sorrow, Confession and Praise, and
− through the generosity of the Spirit, though many, speak with one voice
III. Experience intimacy
• The intimacy of a personal experience of God
• Through interdependent relationships with one another
• Leads to transformation
− in new life in Christ, and
− growth in this new life in Christ
IV. Forming Disciples
• As all who worship fully participate in the prayers of the church
• With integrity and congruence of faith and life
• Forming a prophetic vision of kingdom and world
